Artists Statement
Growing up in Dallas, I continuously find new avenues of interest and complexity that I had not seen before. I try to bring in this sense of discovery into each of my paintings. I have been focused on a series that explores humans’ ability to anthropomorphize creatures, and the blur of boundaries between animals and human personalities. A series of birds has come together that range from the exotic to the mundane. Each has they’re own “sense” of personality, attitude, and emotion. I find such intrigue in how the audience imposes their own characteristics upon each animal. By focusing on draftsmanship, detail, and complex layering, I strive to draw the viewer in closer, and to keep they eye continuously curious.
